Day 350 in Japan: Being a Part of Communities
By miyosi ariefiansyah (bunda taka) - December 15, 2020
Woww... Today is day 350. It means there are still 100 days left in Japan. I wish I can come back here one day, not just for traveling, but for living. Xixixi aamiin. Who knows.
Today, I am going to share about being a part of communities.
No matter where I live, I always join community. For the example when I lived in Bekasi, I was a part of FLP Bekasi. And when I lived in Balikpapan four years later, I was a part of PIPEBI and IWABA Balikpapan. Now when I am in Japan, I am a part of FLP Jepang. (FYI: I deliberately use the phrase "FLP Bekasi" and "FLP Jepang" on this post)
Alhamdulillah, in every organization that I participated in, I was always given the opportunity to become an organization committee. In Bekasi and Balikpapan, I became a secretary. And now, when I join a writing organization in Japan, I become a public relation division. As an introvert, following the organization gives us a lot of benefits.
Oh yeah, before writing more about this, I want to remind people about their misunderstanding that introvert doesn't not same as being shy. Maybe, you could read book "The Introverted Leader – Building on Your Quiet Stregth" or "The Introvert Advantage" to get accurate informations about introverts. Honestly, I feel pissed off because there are still many people who don't understand this. I bet they don't read much literature and just read from social media. Sorry for being judgmental. Yeah. Honestly, I am so annoyed and irritated. LOL. Introvert is about how to get an energy or recharge. They get energy when they are alone so their necessities to be lonely is much more than extroverts. Introvert is not those who dislike socialization. They just don't want to be in the center of attention.
Okay, go back to the topic.
Joining an organization especially for introverts means being able to develop their skill and capability and sometimes also to "show off". Introvert tends to dislike accentarting themselves, even though they may have the capacity for it. Not because of shame or insecurity, but yes, it's just about which is more comfortable. By following the organization, these introverts can show their contribution and can be more expressive too.
As I experienced. I have been joining Forum Lingkar Pena or It's known FLP since 2009. When I was in Bekasi, I was a member of FLP Bekasi and since I moved to Japan in 2020 I automatically become a member of FLP Jepang. Although my presence here was not long since March I have to go home, but I am so pleased being a part of them.
What is the difference between FLP Bekasi and Jepang? For me, both are the same, the only difference is the location. I'm grateful for being a part of them. This will be an unforgettable memory.
FLP Bekasi gave me an opportunity to share my daily living in the land of the rising sun through their IG's Live that were held months ago. Then when FLP Bekasi celebrated their birthday, they entrusted me to share my experiences as a profesional writer on zoom in their peak event. I had also been a judge for two writing competitions they held. Now, I am an editor of their anthology project. What makes me touched is they don't forget me even though I no longer live in Bekasi.
How about FLP Jepang?
Alhamdulillah, 2020 become FLP Jepang's revival after hibernation for years because all members were so busy with their own activities. Like I wrote above, FLP Jepang entrusts me to the core committee. I had the opportunity to take part in a national gathering that was held last November. My friends and I represented FLP Jepang. There were three delegates: two of my friends were in commission A and B while I was in commission C. Previously, I also represented FLP Jepang following COE writing online training for FLP websites. Alhamdulillah, my writing at that time became one of the selected writings that would be published on the FLP website. And before, FLP Jepang also chose me to be a moderator on IG's live event.
Honestly, beside being an organization committee of FLP Jepang, I am also being a part of religious organization. We call it SIPUT (Silaturahmi Keputrian), a part of FKMIT (Forum Keluarga Muslim Indonesia Tsukuba). Yes, not only you, I was shocked too and actually didn't want because I think I am not a religious person. Xixixi. I don't feel like I deserve to be a part of it. But, finally, I am trying to join SIPUT and everything is gonna be fine. Joining SIPUT makes me learn a lot. Even though at first I was really shocked when Mbak Putri asked me to be a committe, but I am so happy being a part of them.
Yeah.... I am so grateful to have given those opportunities and to get to know all of them.
Honestly, one of the things that made me feel at home overseas all this time is because of the following organization. It makes my life more colorful and later when I am not overseas anymore, I will remember it as part of a beautiful and breathtaking story.
The most important thing when joining the organization is that I am increasingly faced with a variety of characters and all of them can be used as life lesson. People do come and go, but their impression usually will be imprinted in our heart.
